In joining up with Survival International, we (MSSCF) will be committing ourselves to fight for the survival of the Penan tribe. Below are a number of links (with excerpts from the article) which leads to further information about how the Penans are not recognized by the Sarawak government and being given little to no help, how the Penans are being threatened by logging companies, and the horrendous acts committed by the very same company against the people.
- “Some company workers have threatened the Penan with death if they continue to resist, and others are accused of raping Penan girls and women.”
- “The resettled Penan also struggle to pay the bills for water and electricity in their government-built homes.”
- “The Sarawak state government does not recognize the Penan’s rights to their land.”
- “The logging and plantation companies are preventing the Penan from being able to feed their children.”
Our first step to help the Penan tribe is to send as many letters as we have members to the Sarawak government. Please follow the step-by-step guide below, print out your letter, sign it, and pass it to any of our committee members (or contact our Secretary, Eugene at 07773710913. We also can arrange for someone to pick up your letters). We will send the letter on your behalf.
Save the Penan, write a letter.
Of course, not forgetting our international friends, there are other tribes all over the world in similar position as the Penan tribe whom will be needing all the support they can get. Find out if there is an endangered tribe in your home country, and I’ll put you in touch with someone from Survival International who can provide you with further information.
